Tax Manager
The Tax Manager is an integral part of the team and performs the following job duties:
- Obtains information for preparing tax returns, protests, briefs, technical memoranda, reports, etc., and prepares same; demonstrates ability to recognize non-routine tax problems and, after research, to suggest solutions.
- Communicates with clients, Internal Revenue Service representatives and others; and helps on special assignments.
- Reviews tax returns prepared by other staff and prepares complex tax returns as necessary.
- Supervises preparation process and assists staff to resolve tax issues as they arise.
- Informs partners of progress on engagements; takes timely action on technical, scheduling, and other problems. Brings recommended solutions to partner’s attention for timely action.
- Prepares performance reviews and participates in training other staff. Provides timely feedback and direction. Exhibits patience and willingness to supervise.
- Good understanding of tax code and regulations; stays abreast of tax law changes; applies changes as appropriate for client base.
Requirements:
- Approximately 4+ years of tax experience in public accounting (preferably with a local or regional firm) with 2+ year’s experience as a senior/supervisor planning and directing daily progress of work.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s in Taxation or Master’s in Accounting (tax concentration) preferred
- CPA license required
- Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills as well as analytical & problem-solving ability
- Experience in a paperless environment; experience with CCH Axcess preferable
